Our Coaches

James Tatum

I have a wealth of knowledge in the world of strength and a strong desire to help others better themselves through it!

Early on

I started in the world of strength as a teenager. I was lucky enough to work with a great Powerlifting Coach who passed a lot of knowledge on. I eventually found the sport of weightlifting and become a 3x national champion, multiple international team member, and even a University Worlds Silver Medal. I was blessed to learn under more great coaches like Glenn Pendlay, Don McCauley, David Fleming, and Leo Totten. I was always looking to develop myself as a coach while I was pursuing my athletic career, earning a BS in Exercise Science, my Massage and Bodywork License, and USAW national coach certification.

Current

I opened the doors to House of Weightlifting in 2018 and have been working towards developing athletes and coaches in the sport of weightlifting ever sense! I am on the sports medicine committee for USA Weightlifting, host of the podcast Open House with James Tatum, and am a husband and father to two kids.

George Averitt

George is currently a USAW level 2 Weightlifting Coach, NASM Certified Personal Trainer, and NASM Certified Nutrition Coach. His Current goals are to earn his Bachelors degree in Kinesiology, become a USAW National Coach and the 81kg National Champion. He found his love for weightlifting, personal training, and nutrition while serving in the United States Army. His top priority is to deliver evidence-based training methods through comprehensive programming. He believes that the key to success in the sport of Weightlifting is consistency! “Strength Through Consistency”
