James Tatum
I have a wealth of knowledge in the world of strength and a strong desire to help others better themselves through it!
Early on
I started in the world of strength as a teenager. I was lucky enough to work with a great Powerlifting Coach who passed a lot of knowledge on. I eventually found the sport of weightlifting and become a 3x national champion, multiple international team member, and even a University Worlds Silver Medal. I was blessed to learn under more great coaches like Glenn Pendlay, Don McCauley, David Fleming, and Leo Totten. I was always looking to develop myself as a coach while I was pursuing my athletic career, earning a BS in Exercise Science, my Massage and Bodywork License, and USAW national coach certification.
Current
I opened the doors to House of Weightlifting in 2018 and have been working towards developing athletes and coaches in the sport of weightlifting ever sense! I am the Head Coach of House of Weightlifting, host of the podcast Open House with James Tatum, and am a husband and father to two kids.

My Coaching Career started in Crossfit when I became a Coach and then Head Coach at Interstate CrossFit in 2016 and now I am a strength coach at North Greenville University. Since working at Interstate, I have overseen the programming for several CrossFit gyms and Weightlifting programs, working with a wide range of athletes from different age groups and demographics. I continued my education, getting my CF-L2 as well as my USA Weightlifting Level 2 (USAW-L2) Certification. I became a member at House of Weightlifting in 2018 shortly after the gym opened and was brought on as a coach in 2020. I have my Master’s in Coaching and Sport Education at West Virginia University (WVU).
